Our organic extra virgin olive oil is a product of the N.  Mylopotamos Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) in Rethymnon-Crete, as designated by European Union (EU) regulation 2092/91. Our organic cultivation and production is approved both by the EU Agency BioHellas and the USDA/NOP (see Certificates section).

Our organic extra virgin olive oil is the premium yield of the first cold pressing of Koroneiki type olives, the fruit of the best olive tree cultivar in the Mediterranean and specifically in Crete. The olives are harvested by hand on a daily basis between the months of November and January. Their pressing follows this very daily routine in order to avoid any olive fruit compression impact or deterioration, as that would affect its most pristine attributes of its antioxidant, nutritional and health values.  Hence, the pressing takes place immediately after harvesting by mechanical means at temperatures well below 27° C in order to maintain the above mentioned values and qualities, but also its taste and aroma.

Growing olive trees the organic way involves a lot of care, passion, vision for the future and commitment to achieving product excellence, but also dedication to ecological preservation, biodiversity and environmental carrying capacity.  Minimal irrigation takes place given the precipitous geomorphology of the Mylopotamos region and the spatial allocation and layout of the olive groves, hence minimizing soil erosion and aquifer depletion.  The use of chemically produced fertilizers is not permitted, whereas the prevention of the olive tree and olive fruit diseases is carried out with a blend of traditional methods combined with the directive of European and International organizations which oversee, control and examine the processes and procedures of organic cultivation.  In random and selective olive oil samplings complete absence of any chemicals, in rigorous laboratory analyses, is a must in order for the product to be qualified and classified as of organic nature.

Our "Mylopotamos ® - Right from the Olive ® " N. Mylopotamos-Crete EU/USDA certified Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a wholesome product, without any blending, additives, or preservatives, with a naturally achieved low acidity at a maximum of about 0.43%, a wonderful light green color, great taste and discreet aroma in the domain of middle fruitiness.  It is a product of high nourishing and healthful values beneficial to the human body throughout all age subgroups.  It is ideal for salads, for drizzling over foods, and for healthy cooking.

As with our EU/USDA certified Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, our Natural Extra Virgin Olive Oil variety exclusively represents the premium yield of the first cold pressing of Koroneiki type olives, produced by the most successful olive tree cultivar in the Mediterranean and especially in Crete.  The olives are harvested manually between the months of November and January.  Their pressing takes place immediately in order to avoid any olive fruit alteration and deterioration which would affect its qualitative nutritional and health attributes.  During the pressing by mechanical means the temperatures remain well below 27° C in order to preserve the wholesome qualities and characteristics of the product.

The cultivation of olive trees is an ancient tradition in Crete dating to the early 3rd millennium (Minoan period) before our era.  The transfer of generational wisdom, sensitivity and respect for the old traditions blends naturally with the more modern in N. Mylopotamos-Crete.  Dry farming, with minimal irrigation saves the fertile soils from erosion.  Most often biodegradable fertilizers acquired from locally operated animal herding are used to enhance the abilities of the soils as fruit trees, native flowering trees and grape vine varieties blend in within most olive grooves in the N. Mylopotamos PDO.  Hence, as with the organic cultivation no monocultures are ever present.  Committed to a healthier environment the people of N. Mylopotamos PDO mimic the habit of organic olive cultivation implementing it as best as they can even in the domains of conventional olive groves.

Our "Right from the Olive® - Mylopotamos ®" Natural Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a fresh natural product, without any blending, additives or preservatives, with a naturally achieved low acidity at about a maximum of 0.43% (as with the organic variety), with a pleasing light green color, a wonderful texture to the palate with a fruity taste and discreet aroma.  It is a product of high nutritious and healthful values beneficial to the human body throughout all age subgroups.  It is recommended for salads, for drizzling over foods, and for healthy cooking.
